Diabetes Awareness Week

Monday, May 7 – 5:00-7:00pm
E “pie” Awareness.  Free food and fun in Eckman Mall. Everyone is invited to hear about Insulindependence, listen to music, eat food, and just hang out with friends in order to start the week off right.

Tuesday, May 8 – 7:30pm
Free seminar on the science behind Type-1 diabetes and modern advances in treatment, Wallenburg Auditorium of Nobel Hall at Gustavus Adolphus College.  Presented by Luke E. Benedict, MD.  No registration required.

Thursday, May 10
10:30am until 1:30 pm
Free glucose tests and information on diabetes, Evelyn Young Dining Room, Gustavus Adolphus College.  Glucose tests administered by Dallen Willey, MD. Free informational materials provided by Eli Lilly and Company.

7:30 pm
Free Interactive Diabetes and Exercise Presentation, featuring Type-1 Motivational Performer Noah Moore and Insulindependence Co-founder Peter Nerothin.  Event to be held in Alumni Hall at Gustavus Adolphus College.  No registration required.

Noah Moore is diabetes advocate and motivational performer.  Having breakdanced, juggled and firedanced his across South America, Asia and the United States, Noah has captivated audiences from the Amazon Jungle to modern conferece settings.  “We are an orchestra of uniqueness that needs every part of humanity playing its own spontaneous melody,” he claims.  Whether or not you are a person who lives with type-1 diabetes, Noah’s petition to live in “the Now” is certain to entertain and inspire you.

Peter Nerothin is a wilderness guide, world adventurer, and Ironman triathlete.  With the simple conviction that diabetes “is not an inhibiting condition with regard to high-level activity,” Peter co-founded Insulindependence, an international non-profit adventure company aimed at changing diabetic lives through outdoor adventure and educational outreach.  He has presented throughout the U.S. at ADA expos, JDRF events, hospitals and community events.

French Toast Breakfast, St. Peter Catholic Church.  Proceeds go to Insulindependence. Menu includes: French toast, scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, coffee, and juice.

Wednesday, April 25 – 6:30pm
Eppie Auction and Silent Auction, Evelyn Young Dining Room, Gustavus Adolphus College (located on the upper level of the North end of the Campus Center Building). Members of campus and the surrounding St. Peter area may bid on members of the fraternity to do chores for them and/or enjoy their company. The winners of various items donated by local businesses will be announced. Items include: a free haircut for a year for a man and woman from The Buzz in Mankato.

Saturday, April 28
Eppilooza Battle of the Bands. All day music festival held in ‘Swede’ Park with the winners chosen by YOU! All proceeds from T-shirt sales and a portion of the proceeds from third party vendors will go to Insulindependence.

6:30 a.m. - Minnesota Ironman Bike Ride, Lakeville High School. All are encouraged to join and/or support The Epsilon Pi Alpha fraternity in their efforts to raise money for Team Insulindependence during Minnesota’s most heralded century ride.
