East African Gorilla Safari

Long, long ago…in a second-year German class, my friend Isaac and I were forever changed by a standard unit in zoo vocabulary. It was then we made our pledge to someday visit the East African Savannah, if for no other reason, to witness Papio hamadryas hamadryas (commonly known as “the monkey with the red butt”) in his natural habitat. Nearly eleven years had passed when we could wait no more…

Below are some images from a 3-week safari which took us through Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and finally, the Congo (Zaire) for an unforgettable first-hand encounter with a colony of endangered mountain gorillas.
