Name: Angie Howe
Age: 17
Hometown: Te Awamutu, New Zealand
Date of Diagnosis: January 2004
Favorite activities: Going to the gym, taking the dog out for walks
Favorite thing about having diabetes: The people I’ve met and the places I’ve been. They’ve motivated me to be healthier and fitter.

“Earlier this year in May, I went on an Insulindependence trip down the Missouri River. I had always been interested in pumps but they weren’t all that common in NZ. Several people on the trip had pumps and loved them. I saw the advantages of having one, e.g. better BG control.  As soon as I got back to NZ, I phoned my doctor and told him I was extremely keen on getting a pump, so we organised meetings and interviews to get the pump.  I got accepted to get one and have now also been given a brand new pump free of charge by my doctor.  Already my BG levels are improving =)

I am going to keep working until I get the control I want, exercise as much as I can to keep myself fit and healthy.  When I finish school I want to go to Uni and study to become a dietitian.”
